June 2015: TripAdvisor, the world’s largest online travel site, has announced its 2015 Certificate of Excellence Award winners – and local group, Protea Hotels, which owns the African Pride Hotels, has come up tops!
The Awards reflect those establishments that are consistently rated positively by travellers in reviews on the TripAdvisor site.
“With twenty-four of our South African and African establishments being recognised through this prestigious acknowledgement, Protea Hotels and African Pride Hotels are confident that we are constantly improving our service standards, allowing us to stand out from our competition. We actively listen to what our customers are saying via peer-to-peer review sites such as TripAdvisor and our own feedback channels to ensure our service standards continue to deliver on the ever-evolving needs of our guests,” says Nicholas Barenblatt, Group Marketing Manager, Protea Hotels & African Pride Hotels, which are part of Marriott International.

Of this year’s winners of the Certificate of Excellence Awards, just 9% qualify for the esteemed accolade of being Certificate of Excellence Hall of Fame Winners, which recognise establishments that have consistently been awarded the Certificate of Excellence for all five years that the Awards have been made. According to Nicholas, this includes at least four of the Protea Hotels and African Pride Hotels. “The Hall of Fame acknowledgement is a real credit to African Pride 15 on Orange Hotel, African Pride Melrose Arch Hotel, African Pride Pumba Private Game Reserve, and Protea Hotel North Wharf, with their constant focus on service.”
With comments on the TripAdvisor site like, “Only the best is good enough for us and it was !!!”, “Just perfect in every way!”, and “Fantastic home away from home!” it’s clear that Protea and African Pride Hotels are more than living up to travellers’ expectations!
