January 2015: Protea Hotel Mossel Bay has recently remodelled eight rooms and upgraded them from family rooms to Deluxe rooms, bringing the look and feel in line with modern international trends and finishings.

The eight rooms, which have been a part of the hotel since it opened as a guest house 25 years ago, now each have a king-size bed that can be split into two twin beds. The furnishings feature intricate woodwork and all furniture was sourced and produced locally in nearby George.

Protea Hotel Mossel Bay is situated on the Old Post Tree Square. It has, amongst others, 15 Manor Rooms, 7 Harbour Suites and 1 Presidential suite. With the 8 Deluxe Rooms, the hotel now has 31 units. Owner JJ Moorcroft said: “The new rooms will appeal to a range of travellers, domestic and international, whether they are travelling for leisure or for business.”

Mossel Bay is an important part of the tourist-friendly Southern Cape coast, or the Garden Route as it is also known, and the hotel is perfectly situated for holiday and business. The Protea Hotel Mossel Bay, which forms part of the Dias Museum Complex, is also home to The Blue Oyster Cocktail Bar, a swimming pool, private secure parking, shopping complex, a coffee bar and the ever-popular Café Gannet Restaurant.

Nicholas Barenblatt, group marketing manager of Protea Hotels, which is part of Marriott International, said: “All of these offerings, the beautiful surroundings and the ongoing, consistently excellent and friendly service by our TEAM, are what have contributed to the hotel gaining four stars and a number one ranking on TripAdvisor.”

Protea Hotel Mossel Bay’s next project is to improve the sundeck at the Blue Oyster Bar and to upgrade the Presidential Suite to full five-star standard.
