June 2015: Protea Hotel Fire & Ice! Twitter Blanket Drive, #TBD2015, was a huge success with all three hotels opening their doors to host live music events in order to highlight the cause.

#TBD2015 is an online Twitter campaign which has grown hugely over five years and is now supported by many organisations including Protea Hotel Fire & Ice! The goal is to collect as many blankets as possible for the less fortunate.

Protea Hotel Fire & Ice! Menlyn were overwhelmed by the response from the Jacaranda City with this being their first year taking part in the nationwide #TBD2015.

“Over 557 blankets were dropped off by our local Twitter community and caring individuals who heard about the cause through the grape vine,” said Protea Hotel Fire & Ice! Menlyn General Manager Johan Cronje, “The enthusiasm of our staff and the performances on the night by Motherland, combined to create an awareness for #TBD2015.”

Protea Hotel Fire & Ice! Cape Town and Melrose Arch have been involved with the #TBDAfrica for the last 5 years.

“Protea Hotel Fire & Ice! Cape Town showed their love by donating an astounding 1608 blankets, a new record. We’re pleased by how many of our GUESTS and visitors are willing to share the warmth with those less fortunate than themselves,” says Nicholas Barenblatt, Group Marketing Manager Protea Hotels, part of Marriott International.

In Johannesburg, Protea Hotel Fire & Ice! Melrose Arch collected 1007 blankets for #TBD2015.

“We were delighted to be a part of #TBD2015. Helping to bring a wider community together to help countless in need across our country to stay warm this winter is a cause worth supporting,” says Nicholas Barenblatt.
