Cape Town, 31 May 2016: Children with life-threatening illnesses have to endure so much. That is why the Reach For A Dream Foundation has, for 28 years, been working to give these children and their families hope, and ease the strain that comes with living with a serious illness. The Foundation does this by giving children aged between 3 and 18 with life-threatening conditions the opportunity to live out their dreams.

“For four-year-old Yagy, who has leukaemia, it was being a princess for a day. For Malibongwe, also four years old and fighting Burkitt’s lymphoma, it was the chance to meet his heroes, the Kaizer Chiefs soccer team. Five-year-old Caleb, who is battling cancer, got to realise his dream of swimming with dolphins,” explains Carla Vice, Marketing & Fundraising Events Coordinator – Western Cape Reach For A Dream Foundation.
“In addition to fulfilling dreams, we have projects where we work with groups of ill children. These include Family Focus, Captain Courage, Queen For A Day, Camp Sunshine and Jabulani Kingdom. These projects allow us to reach over 30 000 children,” Carla explains.

Knowing that this work comes at a significant cost, Protea Hotels continues its partnership with the Reach For A Dream Foundation to make even more dreams come true. Protea Hotels hosted a fun golf day which gave their clients an opportunity to get involved and support this incredible foundation. Protea Hotels raised R269 036 for Reach For A Dream – almost double the amount raised at last year’s event.
To collect the funds, Protea Hotels, together with Reach For A Dream Foundation, invited their corporate and trade travel clients to play the Arabella Golf Course, one of the best in the country, in exchange for a contribution to the cause.

“This year’s golf day exceeded our wildest expectations and really went a long way towards fulfilling the commitment that Protea Hotels and African Pride Hotels make to supporting the community and causes that benefit those less fortunate,” explains Danny Bryer, Sales, Marketing & Revenue Director for Protea Hotels and African Pride Hotels, a proud member of leading global hotel group Marriott International.

“With the funds raised, the Reach For A Dream Foundation will be able to continue its uplifting work of giving hope to seriously ill children and their families, who really need all the support and encouragement we can give them in their time of difficulty,” he added.

The golf day, hosted annually by the African Pride Arabella Hotel & Spa in the picturesque Kleinmond area of the Western Cape, continues to grow from strength to strength, attracting support from companies who see the tremendous value in the work of the Reach For A Dream Foundation.
