Chic conferencing at Protea Hotel by Marriott® Cape Town Sea Point

Cape Town, 17 August 2016: Popular Cape Town conference venue, The Protea Hotel by Marriott® Cape Town Sea Point, has opened its new conference facilities to offer a whole lot more to clients. Geared to maximise the facilities for versatile use, the upgrade will definitely excite companies and conference organisers.

Situated just a few kilometres from Cape Town’s bustling CBD, yet close to Sea Point’s beachfront, makes this a particularly attractive venue for conference organisers. Conferencing has developed into a significant part of the hotel’s business over the years, and today it hosts numerous business events for both domestic and international clients.

“The design elements of these well-appointed conference facilities reflect an extension of the relaxed Cape Cod design that was introduced during the refurbishment of the hotel itself two years ago. At the same time, we have increased the conference space available,” explains Danny Bryer, Sales, Marketing & Revenue Director of Protea Hotels by Marriott and African Pride Hotels.

In addition to the focus on a modernised, stylish look, the upgraded facilities will allow for greater efficiency in the servicing of conference delegates. As Bryer explains, “This is evident in the creation of open-plan communal spaces that can be used for tea and coffee breaks and for other needs. Offering greater flexibility in their use, we have added additional work stations and seating for up to 30 more people there. The flexibility of use applies both from our own point of view in that we are able to use the spaces for different activities, as well as for delegates, who can choose either to work there between conference sessions or to enjoy their breaks there. And, taking account of the demand today for facilities for charging devices, we have installed numerous plug points in the pre-assembly areas and communal spaces.”

Key features of the refurbishment include the installation of new air-conditioning, and there is a focus on natural ventilation systems so that fresh air can be used in conjunction with the air-conditioned air. And, at 2.7m in height, all the rooms have greater height than beforehand now that the ceilings have been raised; which allows for more flexibility for events that utilise exhibition stands.  The largest conference room can seat up to 150 delegates, and the other rooms cater for a range of numbers.

The refurbished conference centre reopened on 15 August.  With its new look and the added facilities on offer, as well as Protea Hotels approach of offering modern design and consistent amenities, along with proactive and personal service at a global standard, the Protea Hotel by Marriott Cape Town Sea Point’s conference centre is sure to become an even more sought-after venue.
