5 Reasons to escape to the Overberg

By Sibongile Mafu

The best thing about travelling is finding hidden gems that weren’t part of your strict itinerary. The gorgeous places tucked away that locals hold dear to their hearts. That, for me, is what the Hermanus, Kleinmond and surrounds represent.

You’re not a big fan of driving too far away from Cape Town and are looking for a wonderful vacation close to home? Just over 100km is an ideal break away.

The great thing about the Overberg is the amount of activities available for singles, couples and families in the area. From whale-watching, to water sports and great eateries, you won’t be disappointed.

Arabella Hotel and Spa – this is paradise located in paradise. You won’t want to leave. This award-winning hotel and spa should be your base when you’re in the area. The pools, both indoor and outdoor, are heaven in liquid form. The spa is a dream. You won’t go wrong choosing the full body massage. the rooms have breathtaking views of the golf estate. I’d head east for Arabella alone.

Bistro has the most incredible courtyard. Soak up the sun and the beautiful flowers as you enjoy a delicious poached egg. An absolute must-visit whether you’re travelling alone or with a partner.

Do you think you could handle a bit of zip lining? Maybe you like quad-biking or even paintballing? SA Forest Adventure in the Overberg will take care of your adventurous side. Take a group of great mates and enjoy the great outdoors.

This is a hidden gem in the Hemel En Aaarde valley. With menus fit for kings and a world-class wine selection, Creation Wines is simply too good to resist. Stop by for some lunch – their pairing menu is to die for. Tell Carolyn I sent you.
